The Story of the Pixies
In Denmark, the pixies rule the Christmas season much like the "Elf on a Shelf" does in America. The Danish pixy (Nisse) is usually a short man or woman wearing a red cap. The tale of the pixies came about in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They would often live on the family farm and help with chores. The families must take good care of their pixy and feed them porridge with butter on Christmas Eve.
The pixies first appear at human homes on December 1st. They will sometimes bring an advent calendar full of small gifts for each day of the month. They can be up to 400 years old and dress in cozy knits. They usually say farewell to their human families on Christmas Eve and fly back to the North Pole on Santa's sleigh. They magically arrive back to homes year after year for more holiday fun.

Choosing the Perfect Pixy
