Many have asked for the meaning of the name Maileg. It’s very simple:
Started in Denmark, Dorthe Mailil and her husband Erik established Maileg in 1999. Mailegs' dream was to develop a brand of whimsical toys to capture the hearts of children around the world.
Before the dream for the company, Dorthe was a well-known graphic designer for many books and magazines. She studied at the Danish Design School or Arts where her colleagues admired her drawings and creative touch, which ultimately lead to the inspiration for the brand. The story went along like this, one day she decided to make a pixy out of clay as a part of a project, people were so amused by what she had created that they in turn wanted a piece of their own. That same pixy became later known as the inspiration for Noilly Noel. This was the start of it all.
Dorthe and Erik both worked hard, day and night doing everything from designing, packing, participating in shows, finding manufactures, etc. All this hard work soon paid off.
Today, Maileg is sold across all the continents of the world and we have distributors in UK, Germany, Spain, Australia, Japan, Czech Republic/Slovakia, Finland, France, Greece, Holland, Belgium, Hungary, Italia, Portugal, South Africa, and Sweden. Our beloved maileg toys are designed and developed with love in Denmark, produced with care and attention in China.
After successful efforts throughout Europe they decided it was time to expand Maileg to North America.
